A Fluffy Surprise

Before comedy, I had zero robes. Now look at my growing collection!

This beauty came to me in the mail today from the HBO folks — my swag for being a part of the Bill Maher tapings. How neat! It’s always exciting to get a package from FedEx when you’re not expecting anything!

Sorry but I’m not putting on makeup for you people. I’m working. And there’s no make-up in baseball!… Wait, huh? ;)

And this is the robe I got when I did The Ellen Show. So pretty and comfy. I heart it. :) I’m  learning that robes are the currency of big-time comedy shows. I can’t wait to make it to the point where I can give away gifts like these after my big performances. The only difference is my souvies will be embroidered Snuggies.

Because well… you know. ;)

Oversleeping and Overalls

I know I’ve been a lazy blogger but the last two weeks have literally been a blur. After digging my car out of the remnants of Snowpocalypse 2010, I drove down a day early to Raleigh to make sure I didn’t miss my Bill Maher shows. On the Sunday morning after the special aired I drove from Raleigh to Altoona, PA for a Valentine’s Day show. Then on the 15th I woke up at the buttcrack of dawn and drove from Altoona to Baltimore so I could catch a flight to San Antonio. I was there for one night and the next morning had to fly to Atlanta.

Which brings me to the reason for this post. I overslept and missed my first flight into ATL and had to take a later flight. Then when I finally got into the ATL airport, the airtrain that takes you to the rental car facility was broken and I and about a hundred plus other people had to wait nearly 50 minutes to get to the facility.

All I wanted to do was get to a bed and I didn’t know if I was gonna even be able to stand on my feet any longer. But then I saw this:

over-it-all

The most awesome pair of Maurice Malone overalls ever stitched.

And my day was immediately brightened. These jeans gave me energy. Where did he find them? Or better yet, what made him keep them so long? And how does he access the goodies he puts in the pouch? Getting undressed to get to your cell phone seems a little inconvenient… I wondered (almost aloud — I was kinda delirious ;) whether the pouch on the back was considered an additional carry-on. ‘Cause somehow it doesn’t seem fair that he should be allowed that AND a laptop bag. I thought I would share so these jeans could brighten your day too.

You’re welcome.

SnowPocalypse 2010: Hate It & Love It

Got snowed in and my neighbors are the greatest. Wish I spent more time here (well no I don’t because then I’d be broke) because I had no idea how much fun it is to live in my building! Enjoy.

Happy Birthday Bob

This is truly the intersection of genius.

Stevie Wonder singing Bob Marley’s ‘Redemption Song.’ I figured that having my favorite artist salute my other favorite artist (they’re tied for my affections) by covering one of his most important songs was a fitting way to honor his memory. Had he lived to see today, Bob Marley would have been 65 years old.

I remember how excited I was when I first bought this CD: Song Review: Greatest Hits and heard this remake. It’s at the very end of the second CD and it’s just perfect — the perfect way to do a remake. Because I believe that if you’re going to bother, you should take the song and make it your own somehow. What’s the point in singing someone’s song exactly how they did it? This is so rich and one of best remakes of a classic of ALL TIME — though I’m admittedly biased. :)

I hope you enjoyed it. Happy Birthday, Bob!

Auntie EJ’s loveees

Yay! Got to spend a couple hours with Auntie’s Baby last nite. He and his mom were in DC visiting and stopped by for a quick visit.

romie_watchingplanes

As you may remember, Roman LOVES airplanes. Well one of his favorite things to do is watch video of airplane takeoffs and landings on YouTube — that’s what we’re doing here. And it made no sense to me til we watched this one last nite. It’s the aiport in St. Maarten:

Are you kidding me with that? That looks crazy dangerous. And it’s got more than 6 million views. There are TONS of airplane landings and takeoffs to watch online. WHO KNEW?!?!?

romie_rock

Cheesin’ so hard ;) Such a short visit but I’ll see him again in a few weeks when I travel to Atlanta. Next up, Auntie’s Sweetness on Wednesday!!! This is my goddaughter Maia. Isn’t she the greatest?!?!? Counting the days…

maitai

Man, I love these kids so hard.

My friends are the bestest!

iggles

I have the most thoughtful friends… After all my complaining about the new $.o5 DC bag tax, and seeing how silly I looked a few weeks ago at CVS because I didn’t want to pay for a bag, my girlfriend Courtney sent me some reusable Eagles shopping bags AND a couple CVS bag tag coupons. CVS and the Iggles — my two favorite things!!! You’re the best Court. You know me so well. You made my month!

BABIES — the cutest thing EVER!!!

So I bummed this off my girl Jessica’s Twitter page — she grabbed it off this beautiful ‘inspiration’ blog. And it really may be the CUTEST thing I have EVER seen! I cannot wait for this film to come out! The trailer made me melt and if it doesn’t make you melt — well you might be hollow on the inside.

You’re welcome.

EJ and Santa thru the years…

Don’t you dare judge me!

I love taking Santa photos at Christmastime. They’re my absolute fav! Some folks think I’m too old for it, but we call those folks HATERS! So with the help of my mom I dug up a few of my faves thru the years. Enjoy! And FYI, I’m already braced for all the jokes about the glasses and the Jheri curl — so bring it!!!

This is me and my homie Brown Santa in ‘09:

ej_santa09

For real you guys, he said he’s gonna try and make one of my shows this week! If Brown Santa shows up at the Improv, I. Will. Pass. Out.

Bill Maher, HBO, and… me!!!

real-time-bill2

Just found out yesterday that I was invited to open for Bill Maher as he tapes his upcoming HBO special in February in Raleigh, NC! I’m suuuuuuper excited! Being the liberal politics junkie that I am, Bill and Real Time are kinda like my crack. My mom thinks they might throw me a curve ball and ask that I renounce Jesus before the performances, but I’m relatively sure that won’t happen.

Just to be clear, I won’t be appearing on HBO, but the fact that they trust me to prep the crowds for one of the network’s biggest stars is super flattering. Not to mention that it’ll be a huge theater full of fans and HBO execs. And hopefully, I’ll get to meet Bill too ;) It’ll be hands-down the biggest show I’ve ever done. Hooray for this!

Bribing Auntie’s Baby and Thanksgiving

So I went to visit Auntie’s Baby and family for Thanksgiving. Yaaaaaaay! I knew that he wouldn’t remember me because it’s been so long since I’ve seen him so I figured I’d have to come bearing gifts — you know, to speed up the bonding process. ;)

But what to get him? Well, I had to think about what I already know about sir Roman. He likes airplanes for sure (you gotta watch this)

Isn't he great???

Roman on the train tracks with Thomas -- isn't he great???

And I know he has a new fascination with trains — Thomas the Train in particular. I finally decided on something we could all enjoy and that his mommy and daddy wouldn’t get mad at me for sending. So I sent a Thomas the Train-themed Edible Arrangement — YUM!!! It came with Thomas the Train balloons and a TT container that could later be used to house all his other Thomas the Train paraphernalia — he has at least 1 or 2 Thomas toys on his person at all times.

balloonup

Thomas was a hit! Roman especially liked the pineapples that were cut into the shapes of stars and the number “1.” But his favorite thing I think was to let the helium balloon fly up to the ceiling and then ask one of us adults to get it for him… You can’t help but indulge kids with things like that b/c it makes them so happy! I love it. Once he assessed that Auntie Erin was cool, we really began to bond. We went swinging at the park and we [read: I] made up a new song about Thomas and Percy and he sang it with me (and a couple times on his own) over the course of the weekend. AND rumor has it on Saturday when he woke up and I wasn’t there, he was walking thru the house calling for me.

Yesssssss! Way to leave ‘em wanting more! ;) Haha… probably won’t be able to see him again until February but now that he’s older he should remember all the fun we had. Hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving as well! Later, EJ
