OK so I’ve taken a pretty lengthy hiatus from posting on the Eagles games this season. No real reason other than they leave me pretty drained — even when they win. But I had to post on tonite’s game.
What in the hell was that? A shut-out? Really?
I choose to believe the Eagles threw that game for strategic reasons. Maybe a new spin on resting starters before the playoffs — Indy benches Peyton Manning so he can rest up and recharge. But we play our starters and just ask them not to exert any real effort… Maybe we didn’t want to give away the real gameplan for next week’s game. Whatever the reason, what happened out there today was downright shameful.
I know there’s a bigger picture here, and finishing the season at 11-5 and snagging a spot in the playoffs are both wonderful things. I just wished we hadn’t lost so badly. I mean, we were picked to lose, yeah. But losing is something altogether different from what we did out on that field today.
No need to dwell on the negative though. I used to let the Eagles’ losses put me in foul moods for the entire week but I refuse to do that anymore. So I’ll just say I’m looking forward to next week! No way do I think Dallas is gonna beat us two weeks in a row. Next Saturday is all about redemption.
I’ve been to my two NFL games for the season so this week I was back at Rhino Bar in Georgetown to take in the game with a couple hundred of my best compadres…
I brought my friend and neighbor Toiya with me. She’s a Dallas fan and I explained to her that she’d be walking into the belly of the beast, but she still wanted to go, so of course I obliged. It was like bringing my own little mini-game to the game ;)
Me and Toiya before things got ugly
The woman sitting next to me at the bar was drinking her beer with a straw. After a few swigs, I couldn’t take it. There was a small group of us around her (men and women) who were just staring at her, and before long we decided she needed an intervention. Come, come girlfriend…
As a woman who loves both football and Yuengling I tried to explain to her that her actions were a poor reflection of ‘our kind’ and would only serve to further the stereotype that women don’t take sports — or beer — seriously. She didn’t surrender completely, but she agreed to use a smaller straw — more like a cocktail straw — which actually made the whole thing worse… But I watch A&E and I’ve learned that sometimes it takes 2, 3, maybe even 4 or 5 times to get thru to someone that needs help.
OK, so this is me on the train headed up to Philly for the Eagles/Giants game on Sunday. Super excited! LET’S GO BIRDS!!!
This is me with my friend Christina. She came to the game with me and obviously is a Giants fan… I know, right? But you can’t stop loving your friends just because they make bad decisions sometimes. We got there late and missed all the fireworks at the beginning of the game, but I was standing outside of the stadium and heard the cheers and the fight song playing so I knew we were off to a good start!
Thanks once again to BFF Angi, we had fantastic seats. We were sitting with the Eagles players’ families. The photo above is me with Mrs. Gayle Jackson — DeSean Jackson’s mother. She was super adorable because she got so nervous for him. When the Giants kicker kicked the ball out of bounds, she cheered because he didn’t have to run it back. “I hate it when they jump all on him,” she said. Awwwww… Continue reading ‘PHI 40, NYG 17′
Thanks of course to BFF Angi who worked for the NFL until last winter, I was able to score great tickets to Monday’s game in DC. I had seats on the 100-level. 4th row on the 30-yard line. FAN-tastic!!!
Brought my sports and home repairs boyfriend Kenny with me. This is beginning to become a regular yearly date for us. I think this is year 3. The game started with another amazing TD off a return from #10 — that boy is going to be a BEAST. But Brian Westbrook also went down with a really serious concussion in the 1st quarter. It was so scary. He wasn’t moving. Players from both teams were on their knees praying… I was glad to see him be able to walk off the field. But I hope he doesn’t try and rush back before he’s healed. #29 can take up that slack. GET BETTER B-WEST!!! Continue reading ‘PHI 27, WAS 17′
OK so a couple folks have pointed out that I didn’t post on last week’s loss… So here goes:
I’m not sure if ‘loss’ is even the right word for what happened… We weren’t blown out or anything but we were still manhandled by one of the worst teams in the league… I spent pretty much that whole afternoon at Rhino Bar in Georgetown. It’s an Eagles bar, where everybody knows your name AND the words to FLY EAGLES FLY. I went around noon to watch the early games and to make sure I had a seat for Eagles/Raiders. I watched the Giants lose. And the Redskins too. I joked that the Cowboys would have lost too if they hadn’t had a bye… And then I settled in for the 4 o’clock game. There’s no explanation for what happened next. And honestly I’ve done my best to block it out.
I mean c’mon son… Oakland, son?
I’m going to the Eagles/Skins game tonite and I KNOW we’re gonna bounce back nicely and stomp these sorry Skins.
Well then Mr. Maclin! Way to burst onto the scene!!! First and second NFL touchdowns… we knew you had it in ya!
Actually, everyone looked great!!! Not that Tampa Bay is having that great a season… But Donovan showed us that he’s feeling good. Throwing 3 TD’s and looking good on the run. Maclin stepped up. Celek continues his hot streak. Chris Gocong — You’re a beast! I was so happy to see things coming together like they did. Only thing that would have made the day better is if Dallas had lost that overtime battle. Geez, it was so close…
My old roomie Crystal’s (above) little brother (well, he’s not really little. He’s 6′5″, 315) is the starting left tackle for TB. Gosh when we were in college he was just a kid. Probably about the same size, but still a kid ;) So it’s crazy to see him in the NFL. And doing so well! During the game yesterday he had a catch and a 15-yd run off a deflection.
WATCH:
And I had a little moment. I knew Crys was at the game so after I was done jumping up and down, I shot her a “YAY, Go D. Penn!!!” text message… Cuz no matter how much I love the Birds, you can’t hate on family… Don’t sleep on #70. Or if you do, do so at your at your own risk.
OK, back to loving the Eagles ;) Can’t wait to see them live in a few weeks in DC for the Redskins MNF game!!!
Should I eat Kevin Kolb Krow? Probably. So here goes: I was completely surprised by his play today. Great to see what getting the reps in practice can do for a guys game and confidence. He did great.
There, I said it.
As you know I have no NFL DirecTV package so I didn’t see the whole game because we were beating KC so badly, they stopped covering the game and moved over to Jets coverage somewhere near the beginning of the 3rd quarter. It was clear they weren’t gonna come back on us, so I was OK with that. Plus that Sanchez is exciting to watch. He’s gonna be a beast. I hope.
Next week - BYE. So get healthy fellas and let’s get busy.
I wasn’t able to see this game. I was in the air traveling all day. But after watching all the highlights, I think I’m happy about that… We will get it together. I have no doubt.
Since I’ve got a lot of work to do, I’m just going to break up my comments on this game into two categories:
Things that were fantastic
Things that were not very fantastic
OK here we go…
FANTASTIC THINGS:
Coach McDermott and the entire defense (but especially Sheldon Brown and Asante Samuel), DeSean Jackson, Nick Cole, Donovan McNabb, B. West — for looking very healthy… and of course Jake Delhomme. Hahaha ;)
It’s about that time again! We’ve got some new Happy/Sad Eagles Chronicles photos this season.
Of course I hope I never have to use the photo on the right…
I’m excited that football is back in full swing! Even more excited that my friends Kendell and Dana have the NFL Sunday Ticket satellite package and several flat screen TVs. ;) Wooooo-hoooo! Let’s. Play. Ball.
