The breakup diet — cheat on me again… Please?

Hey so if you’re not familiar, Rooftop Comedy is a website that has stationary cameras in like 20-30 clubs across the nation. Each weekend the shows at each of their clubs are uploaded to their server and they pick clips and post them on their site. Comics can also submit and upload their own clips… It’s kinda like YouTube but just for comedy. If you have some free time and have never checked it out, browse thru. The content is always fresh. Good for chuckles while you’re at work ;) They posted a few clips from my shows this weekend in Wisconsin. This one is short and sweet so I thought I’d share it.

Haha… this is how GF’09 started. And now 26 pounds later I’m… grateful? OK, maybe that’s the wrong word. But I recognize I needed the kick in the ass. Enjoy!

New furniture?…

OK so I went to Dick’s Sporting Goods the other day to buy a few sets of free weights.

Those who knew me in my former life know that I used to be ridiculously obsessed with weight lifting and strength training. I squatted nearly 500 lbs. I could bench 235… My strength coach was actually “Mr. New Jersey” — or at least Mr. Rutgers — who can remember the specifics? ;) I spent entire summers with him in the gym. I’ll try and dig up some old photos and scan them. Old school friends, back me up! Y’all remember Rich Refi! ;)

I haven’t really done any weight training so far in GF’09 — mainly because I don’t have access to (or money to join) a gym. But I decided not to let that stop me. I figured at least with a few sets of free weights I could at least do some flies, curls, shoulder press, etc.

Sooooo… here we are.

I’m gonna do my best to get on a regular schedule and not let them just sit in the corner. It’s been about 5 years since I did any weight training at all. So I anticipate lots of pain, but it’ll be worth it. Plus, I’ll be better equipped to handle MSBLKNASTY if she ever decides to come for me ;) Tee hee ;)

Fashion Show

Nah, this blog isn’t about that awful new show on Bravo. It’s about the personal fashion show I just had for myself.

As you know I’ve been pretty serious about operation GF’09. I don’t (and will never) own a scale and since there are so few people I see on a regular basis, there’s been no one to really let me know if it was working. Sure I could kinda tell my clothes fit a bit differently but I just chalked it up to not remembering clearly how things used to fit, or that I might have been bloated the last time I wore something…

But yesterday I saw a photo of myself and thought, wow, someone caught me at a flattering angle… And then I saw another one… and another, and I thought, “Hey, I wonder if I’ve dropped a few pounds.” So I pulled out a pair of pants I love and haven’t been able to wear for a while just to see how far away I was from getting back in them… and they fit.

So I tried on a jacket I love that was kind of snug. And then my fave black dress… And before I knew it, I was having a full-fledged fashion show for one! I’m so happy to know that what I’ve been doing is working, but it also so frustrating to be back here again. About 5 years ago I lost 45 pounds. Kept it off for about a year and then slowly began to gain it back. I blame comedy — my jokes are packed with carbohydrates ;) I want to promise myself that once I reach my goal I won’t ever do this again. But I’m kind of afraid to because I did that the last time. So instead I’m just gonna promise to remember how hard (and unnecessary) it’s been to do it all over again.

At least my little fashion show encouraged me to keep going.

GF’09 FOREVER!!! Ok, well maybe not forever ;)

Get Fine ’09 – Pt. 1

There is nothing more discouraging than deciding to get in shape and realizing you can’t fit any of your old gym clothes. Literally y’all, I am working out so that I can fit into my sports bra.

My jogging/walking outfits are embarrassing. Today I just threw on a top and a bottom that looked relatively absorbent, topped it off with a GAP baseball cap and hit the road. I don’t have a fannypack (because well, for the same reason you don’t) so my blackberry was bulging from my capri sweatpants pocket. And the tennis shoes I was wearing — let’s just say there may be some photos of me wearing these same tennis shoes in college. During my cool down I passed another jogger – a very fit woman wearing a very cute jogging suit, and I was envious. Not of her figure, but of her color coordination. Yet I refuse to go out and buy cute workout clothes when I have perfectly good ones collecting dust at home.

Exhale… I’m gonna keep my head up though because in the words of the great philosopher Justin Timberlake, I gotta “get my sexy ONNNNN!” Operation Get Fine in ’09 is going well so far. Wish me luck!
